Assessment System

 (I) ASSESSMENT SYSTEM IN KINDERGARTEN

We do follow a continuous and comprehensive evaluation system in the early learning years and teachers do record achievements based on their observations of the child’s activities throughout the year. Formal assessments will be made twice a year based on the learning goals. Teachers will summarise the child’s achievements at the end of the academic year using both these pieces of evidence.

Every month end, a formal assessment will be conducted to record student’s progress in different skills. Daily assessment will also be conducted to ensure the achievement of learning outcome. The assessments are conducted during the course of teaching in such a way that it is free from stress for students, parents and teachers.

 GRADING SYSTEM IN KINDERGARTEN

 The children are graded in the following ways based on their performances:

O – Outstanding       E – Excellent       VG – Very Good            G – Good NI – Needs Improvement   &   NA – Not Assessed

 

  (II) ASSESSMENT SYSTEM IN GRADE 1 TO 4

 All the subjects will have the assessment of different skills. Reading, Speaking, listening, writing and extra reading are assessed in languages. Mathematical concepts, tables, mental abilities etc. are assessed in mathematics. Science concepts, scientific skills, group discussion etc. are assessed in EVS/Science. Concepts, Environmental sensitivity, activities and projects are assessed in Social Science.

Written assessments (Cycle Assessment –CA) will be conducted for 20 marks (Gr 1& 2), 30 marks (Gr.3 &4) which is the part of assessing the writing skill for all the subjects on all Wednesdays. There will be two Cycle Assessments (CA) in the First term and three Cycle Assessments (CA) in the Second term.

CO-SCHOLASTIC ASSESSMENT

Co- scholastic areas like Physical Education, Art/craft, Music, Dance, etc. will be provided with grades for the different skills mentioned in the rating scale once in a term. An overall grade for a semester will be awarded for the following:-

General Knowledge

Life skill /Moral Education

Yoga

Aerobics

Grades for Personality development and notebook evaluation will be given by the concerned class teachers.

(III) ASSESSMENT SYSTEM IN GRADE 5 TO 9

Grade 5 and above will follow the assessment system prescribed by the CBSE.

 

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT (20 MARKS)

 

Internal assessment includes Periodic assessments (Pen paper test & Multiple assessment), Portfolio and Subject enrichment activities for 20 marks in total.

                    Periodic Assessment:

Pen paper test (weightage 5 marks)

  • School will conduct three periodic assessment-pen paper tests in an academic year. PA-1 in the first term and PA-2& 3 in the second term.
  • The weightage of 5 marks will be awarded for the Pen paper test.

Multiple Assessment (5 marks)

  • Multiple assessments will be conducted as a part of Periodic Assessment using strategies such as quizzes, oral test, concept map, exit cards, visual expression etc.
  • This will be conducted out of 5 marks per term.

  Portfolio (5 marks)

  • Portfolio will be used to award 5 marks as a part of internal assessment.
  • This includes class work, peer assessment, self-assessment, achievement of students in the subject, reflections, narrations, journals etc.

  Subject Enrichment Activities (5 marks)

  • Subject enrichment activity will have to be undertaken for 5 marks per term.
  • This includes Project work, map work in Social Science, Practical activities for Science, Lab work for mathematics and listening and speaking skills for languages.

 TERMINAL EXAMINATIONS (HALF YEARLY AND ANNUAL EXAMS)

  • Half Yearly Exams (HYE)/First term exam and Annual Exams (AE) will be conducted out of 80 marks.
  • Internal assessments and Terminal /Annual exam together constitute 100 marks.

Assessment of Co-Scholastic Areas

 Assessment of Co-scholastic Areas will be continuously done. In the existing scheme of assessment, these activities will be graded on a 5- point grading scale (A to E). The students will be assessed on two areas i.e. Art Education, Health and Physical Education. Work Experience is subsumed in the Physical and Health Education. No up scaling of grades will be done. The PE teacher will make an objective assessment of the level of performance/ participation demonstrated by a student throughout the academic year and finally assign grades.

INTERNATIONAL ASSESSMENTS

The school will administer International Assessment in collaboration with the ADEK approved agencies, across all grades, every year. International Assessment is mandatory for all students of BPWS. Conducting External International assessments for all grades will help us to reflect on the performance of our students, to improve our overall academics, to check the consistency and validity of the internal assessment, to track the progress of the individual child in our school by an outside agency in addition to the internal assessment and progress tracking.

 PROGRESS REPORT

Progress Report will be prepared and published digitally once in a term/twice in a year.

OPEN HOUSE

Open house for KG to G10 will be conducted once a month Starting from the month of May onwards. The date of the open house will be given in the school calendar.
